I work on paper, primarily prints and drawings. My background in printmaking includes lithography, etching, monoprint and linocuts. Some of my current linocut images, whether abstract or non-representational convey a physical sense of awkwardness, tension, or feelings of confinement. I’m enacting a type of anthropomorphization of the abstract. In past work, I’ve emphasized line and varied mark making. But recent linocuts rely more on large areas of flat color. Time outside of the studio, what I call my fieldwork, is spent drawing and sketching the landscape or the urban scene. My sketchbook accompanies me, whether in the city I call home or traveling abroad. I consider myself part of the international community of Urban-Sketchers wherever I am.
