Lori Fowler Studio

My artistic goal is to find balance between realism and abstraction in order to provide a fresh perspective of a representational subject matter. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of conventional painting techniques through a mixed media approach. I paint primarily in encaustic, a process that requires a torch to fuse beeswax, pigment and damar resin onto my substrate. This versatile medium allows for other art materials (such as inks, shellac, graphite and pastels) to be embedded within. Through carving, incision, and layering, I create texture-filled, luminous paintings that invite viewers in for a closer look.
